Many of the older cars did not have a tunnel/floor pan designed for today’s larger modern overdrive transmissions.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t get it installed!   Check out some of the solutions we’ve seen to change the transmission tunnel to allow it to accomodate.

While there are only a couple of cars shown thus far, the principle of the project will be the same regardless of what car you have.  Check out the individual pages on this web site for swap details on your specific application.

69 Chevelle - 5sp, simple solution  (same for 64-72 GM A-Body cars) - 4 pics

69 El Camino - 6sp, deluxe solution - 5 pics

71 Chevelle - 5sp, deluxe solution  (same for 64-72 GM A-Body cars) - 17 pics

70 Mustang - 5sp, very deluxe solution - 30 pics  (and from Australia!)

Here’s 2 examples of what you’ll see on these pages:

The following is a GM TKO into a ‘66 Chevelle, with an awesome fabricated tunnel cover.

The following 2 are from a ‘69 Chevelle SS, originally a 4sp car.  It gives you an idea of what you need to do with the tunnel to get this trans to fit in properly.
